Perry Aadland returns for his fifth season coaching the girls' freshman team. Before retiring from CL in 2012, he taught at Lakeside and at the Middle School. He also served as the middle school assistant principal for six years and as the high school activities director for eleven years. His prior coaching experience include varsity assistant for both boys and girls basketball and he was head coach for Chisago Lakes Girls Basketball for ten years. Both Perry and his wife Mary are Chisago Lakes grads and Mankato State University grads. Perry earned his master's degree at the University of St. Thomas and his specialist degree at the U of M. They have two sons, Trent and Troy.
Coach Appleby is in his second year with the boys basketball program and first as the Junior Varsity coach. Coach Appleby has been in the Chisago Lakes with his family of 6 since 2018. Coaches Appleby's kids attend Chisago Lakes schools, 2 boys and 2 girls with 2 in the Middle School as well as a junior and a senior at the high school. Previously he lived in the San Diego area personal training, teaching elementary phy ed and coaching baseball and basketball. Early in his career he taught for several years in the Forest Lake district and coached football, basketball, and track. Currently he teaches physical education at Chisago Lakes Middle School and also assists with the high school track teams. Coach Appleby has coached over 30 combined seasons in Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track. Coach Appleby attended and graduated from Bethel College in 1997 where he played football and baseball.
Josh Flug is in his third year as head coach of the Chisago Lakes boys basketball team. Coach Flug also teaches Social Studies at Chisago Lakes High School and is an assistant coach for the football team. Coach Flug is in his 8th year overall teaching and coaching, before coming to Chisago Lakes he worked at Burnsville High School and coached basketball for Matt Eppen. Coach Flug went to college in Fargo-Moorhead at NDSU and Moorhead State where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Social Studies Education, he later received his Master's in Education at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. Coach Flug grew up on the Iron Range and went to high school at Babbitt-Embarrass where he played basketball for Coach Tim Malone (current Stewartville AD). Coach Flug lives in Maplewood with his fiancee Mary and his son Porter.
Coach Koehn is currently a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Chisago Lakes High School. This is his 5th year teaching at Chisago Lakes School District and his third year coaching the high school basketball team. Coach Koehn is the Varsity Assistant coach, but also helps with other teams in our program. Coach Koehn has coached basketball for 6 years in Chisago Lakes as well as the Centennial Traveling Basketball program for both his son and daughter. Coach Koehn is also the Varsity Boys Soccer coach at Chisago Lakes High School. Coach Koehn attended Bethel University where he received a degree in Physical Education and participated in both the basketball and soccer programs. Coach Koehn also attended the University of St. Thomas to receive his teaching degree. He has played basketball since the 5th grade growing up and attending Paynesville High School in central Minnesota. He is married to his wife Sara and has two children, Shannon (a junior at Centennial High School) and Alex (a 7th Grader at Centennial Middle School).
The 2020-2021 season will be Coach Caitlin Michaelis' first season on staff at the high school program. She is also a 6th Grade Math Teacher at Chisago Lakes Middle School. Caitlin comes to us from the University of Minnesota Crookston where she recently graduated in May of 2020 with an Elementary Education Major and Coaching Minor. While there, she played five years of NCAA Division II collegiate sports - four on the Women's Basketball Team and one on the Women's Cross Country Team. Prior to Crookston, Caitlin was a 2015 graduate of Marshfield High School in Marshfield, WI, where she was raised in a school district very similar to Chisago Lakes. She is very excited to get her start as a coach in this wonderful school district and community.
Coach Pottinger is in his first season as 9th grade basketball coach at Chisago Lakes High School. Coach Pottinger grew up and played basketball his whole life in Hastings, Minnesota. Following high school he went to Winona State University, where he graduated in December of 2019 with a Social Studies Education degree and a minor in Geography. While student teaching at Cannon Falls in 2019, he was able to be an assistant Varsity boys coach back at his alma mater Hastings High School. Coach Pottinger teaches Social Studies at Chisago Lakes High School.
Jeff Saueressig is the old rookie head coach for the Chisago Lakes Girls' Basketball program. Jeff has been an assistant coach in the program for the last two years following a lengthy stint coaching in the youth program. Jeff is in his 24th year as a high school science teacher at CLHS. Along with teaching, Jeff has been a varsity football and weight room coach for those 24 years. Jeff graduated from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls and earned his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He and his wife Jina live in Center City and have four kids, Ali ('15), Madeline ('17), William ('20) and Katherine ('22).
